Fun Facts about the 2018 World Series

  • It is often said that the team that scores first has the advantage over their opponent. The Red Sox proved that statement correct in their postseason run. The Red Sox went 10-0 this postseason when scoring first. Not to mention those 10 games were in a row, which tied the record for the most consecutive games in a single postseason when scoring first. They actually tied their own record, as they did the same in their 2004 postseason run.
  • The Dodgers are the third team to lose the World Series at home in at least back-to-back years.
  • In total, Clayton Kershaw has allowed 22 postseason homers, which is the second most in postseason history. Only Andy Pettitte has allowed more, with 31 (in 124 and two-thirds more innings). The difference is Pettitte has won five World Series titles, whereas Kershaw has yet to win one.
  • The Dodgers lost game four of the world series despite leading by four runs at a point in the game. LA was 54-0 in games they led by four runs at any point in 2018- including the postseason- until that game.
  • In World Series game 3, the game was the longest in postseason history in terms of time, and tied for the longest in terms of innings. This single game was longer than the whole 1939 World Series, which featured a New York Yankees four-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds.
