Lockout Day 129
Now it’s serious. As the lockout continues to threaten the cancellation of the 2011-12 season, the owners remain steadfast in rejecting the 52-48 split in shared revenue requested by the players. Commissioner Stern gave the players an ultimatum early Sunday, proposing a 50-50 split with a deadline of Wednesday. However, if the players do not accept this deal, the owners will not give the players any higher than 47%, and with the threat of union desertification looming, this is bad news for NBA fans everywhere.
Ironically, Michael Jordan, former all-star and part owner of the Washington Wizards, is leading the charge against the players union. For obvious reasons, players from all over the league took to their Twitter accounts to bash him. “I’m not wearing jordans any more can’t believe what I just seen and heard from MJ #ElvisDoneLeftTheBuilding,” tweeted Nick Young of the Wizards via his @NickSwagyPYoung account. Golden State rookie Klay Thompson added, “You think the 1996 MJ would pull this? Straight hypocrite bro,” via his @KlayThompson account.
A month of the season has already been lost, and with even the most player-oriented owner disagreeing with the union on most matters, the prospects of a long season look bleak. #greed.
