In honor of Veterans Day, Massapequa’s Key Club and the Kiwanis Club have put up flags s.
On November 4, members of the Key Club were helped by the Massapequa High School Hockey Teams to put up the flags. Members of the Berner Builders Club put flags up in front of Berner, as well as the elementary schools. Members of Key Club and the Hockey Team showed up at eight in the morning to help out, despite the freezing weather people were still dedicated to showing support for the veterans.
“Despite the cold weather we were working in, I had a lot of fun working as a team with my friends in order to honor our veterans.” Key Club member Kayla Lew said. “It felt good to spend my Saturday morning giving back to the community instead of just sitting around at home.”
On November 5, a ceremony was held outside the High School in honor of the veterans. Many local politicians attended the ceremony as well as some veterans. There were performances made by the Berner Vocal Points to honor the veterans who attended.
They sang the National Anthem, Hero, Proud to be an American, and Grand Old Flag. Berner Vocal Point member, Alexandra Italiano said. “The performance was very important to everyone there and it was a lot of fun to prepare and perform for everybody.”
Once again Massapequa’s Field of Honor has been a success and has shown our support for all the veterans who fight for our freedom.
