The highly anticipated film, Thor: Ragnarok, was released in theaters worldwide on Friday, November 3, and has quickly been met with near universal praise.
The overall tone of the movie takes a sharp turn from the image set in the first two Thor movies: Thor (2011) and Thor: The Dark World (2013). The movie is full of jokes and comedy, a trope that Marvel Studios is known for. In fact, Ragnarok had more jokes than both of the other two Thor movies.
A common trend of Marvel movies is to have post-credits scenes, and Ragnarok contained two entertaining ones.
The first of these two scenes shows Thor and his brother, Loki, overlooking space on their cruiser when a massive starship appears behind them.
The second scene sees the people of Sakaar turn on The Grandmaster after the disappearance of his prized champion, The Hulk.
Thor: Ragnarok features the return of Tom Hiddleston, reprising his role as fan-favorite character Loki. The film also features some new actors, such as Tessa Thompson as the Asgardian warrior Valkyrie, and Taika Waititi as loveable new character Korg.
Chris Hemsworth stars as Thor, the title character, who reprises his role from the first two Thor movies. Hemsworth truly brings Thor to life in the film.
The film focuses on family troubles between Thor, Loki and Odin, the father of the two. Loki was impersonating the king of Asgard since he faked his death in the battle in the Dark World.
Marvel once again connects its universe by featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange in Thor, much like Thor’s brief cameo in the Dr Strange movie.
¨I really enjoyed the movie because it was funny and was a good segway into the new Avengers movie,” senior Alex Sipinick said. “This was a new step for Marvel in their comedy genre of their films and I can’t wait to see what they have next.¨
