Were you wondering what was done to help other people this year?
The giving tree was set up by the Chiefs Challenge Club to help the less fortunate this holiday season. The Christmas tree in the front lobby had angels with the name of an item in which a family in need was asking for. Students took the angels from the tree and purchased the gifts for the family and gave them to club advisor Mrs. Waters.
The annual act of kindness lasted from December 2 to December 14. The gifts that were donated by generous students and faculty were given to families in need of some assistance this holiday season. The poor economy had put many families in a critical economic situation in which there was barely enough money to scrape by on their bills, let alone enough to spend hundreds of dollars on Christmas presents.
Massapequa High School’s English department donated over $400 to help this organization out. With that money, the club purchased more gifts that were distributed to ten families in the community. All of the families received the gifts they asked for and many more.
All children deserve to have a magical Christmas morning, waking up to see a pile of presents waiting for them under the Christmas tree. The giving tree is providing this magical feeling for families in Massapequa in need – every year.
